Mozart Orchestra

           MOZART ORCHESTRA

MOZART ORCHESTRA was established with the vision to bring the true spirit of the Viennese style of music making to Australian audiences - a tradition that has been passed on through generations of musicians and can be traced beyond Johann Strauss all the way to Schubert, Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart and even Vivaldi.

Wherever possible, Mozart Orchestra performs on the type of instruments common in Viennese orchestras. Together with the appropriate playing styles and techniques, instruments such as Viennese Oboes, Vienna Horns, Clarinets in C and D, Trumpets in F as well as Drums with wooden rims and goat or calf skins are used to produce real Viennese sound.

Himself of an old Viennese family with Australian connections going back to Nellie Melba's time and with an inborn love and understanding for this music, Artistic Director Thomas Pinschof has brought together some of Melbourne's outstanding musicians to share this noble tradition with his Australian friends and audiences.

Thomas Pinschof is proud to be a product of the great Viennese tradition and the culture of being equally partial to the enjoyment of any combination of delicious wine, food, fine arts, architecture, music and dance. Such ‘joie de vivre' makes him equally passionate about music and the genius of Bach, Johann Strauss, Leonardo da Vinci, a rare bottle of wine or a beautiful Lipizzaner stallion.

His library includes many autographs, first editions and he has direct connections to Austrian archives and musical collections. Thomas' arrangements and instrumentations, though sometimes unexpected, are always true to the composer's intentions and stay within the traditions of the period.

Australians are now able to directly benefit from the experience and knowledge gained by his Australia Council sponsored study with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, the world renowned expert on historical performance styles.

Mozart Orchestra is proud to be considered “The most Viennese Orchestra outside Vienna"

On April 27th 2006 Mozart Orchestra performed two movements of Mozart's g-minor Symphony K.550 as well as Johann Strauß' Emperor Valse and the Thunder and Lightning Polka to the thunderous applause of a select group of invited guests. Orchestras Australia was officially launched by Senator The Hon. Rod Kemp, Federal Minister for Sports and the Arts, who gave a compelling speech and called himself "Minister for the Orchestras". Other speakers included Trevor Green, Manager of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Rachelle Elliot and Martin Jarvis for Orchestras Australia.

Thomas Pinschof used the occasion to thank the minister briefly and to appeal for the politician's support of classical music:

"Ladies and Gentlemen, on behalf of the music industry I would like to thank his Excellency and his parliamentary colleagues very much for their support in making music matter more, not just in the education of our children but in the overall culture of the community.  Thanks to the overwhelming public interest in the recent Parliamentary Reviews we have now a unique, once in a life time opportunity to do for Music what Kerry Packer has done for Cricket so that future generations will no longer be preoccupied with getting LOST in the irreality of BIG BROTHER SURVIVORS but with real Reality TV such as a live performance of a Mozart Symphony by the MSO.  WE CANNOT AFFORD TO MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE AUSTRALIA A PLACE OF CULTURE!"
